Choosing the right tools to work in the kitchen cooking more enjoyable and makes the task easier. I am well known as the kitchen gadget queen, and I have earned the title hands down! My kitchen drawers are full of tools that can accomplish individual tasks. The tools I have listed here are the ones I would take with me to a desert isle, the ones I cannot live (ok, cook), without.
Chef’s Knife and a Paring Knife
You need a great chef ’s knife and a comfortable paring knife, spend your money here and keep them sharp. You are unique and every knife is different so take the time to choose one that feels right in your hand. Most better kitchen stores will let you try them out before buying.
Instant Read Thermometer
Why guess when you can be 100% accurate, instantly. Invest in a good instant read thermometer and you will never serve overcooked or under-cooked food again. Many newer models come with Bluetooth technology which eliminates the need to open the oven door multiple time letting the heat escape unnecessarily!
Cast Iron Pans
Cast Iron is my go to pan when I am searing meat, this pan gets screaming hot and stays that way, pop it straight into the oven to finish cooking to the perfect done-ness. This pan has multiple uses from making cornbread to the perfectly browned potatoes. Check out the multiple cookbooks dedicated to this utensil.
Tongs are a great choice for getting several tasks done. I use them for everything from serving salad, retrieving pickles from a jar to turning meat and vegetables while cooking. No more burnt fingers from trying to get the hot bagel out of the toaster!
Silicone spatulas work well in temperature up to 500°. They are my go to when scrambling eggs, scraping the bowl clean and for getting the last bits of goodness out of jar. They also work great when stirring a hot pot, making sure you do not miss any of the edges of the pan.
